Downfall: A Book Charting The Demise of Glasgow Rangers

The soon to be released book Downfall is written by an Irish author Phil Mac Giolla Bhain and claims to show the corporate demise of Glasgow Rangers.  Considering the Mac Giolla Bhain is a serial Celtic blogger with an unusual hatred for all things Rangers it seems a little unusual that he chose this topic.  However, in recent months we have witnessed the phenomenon of countless dyed in the wool “Tims” garnering an unhealthy obsession with all things Blue.  As a precursor to the arrival of Downfall the Sun newspaper advertised that they were about to serialise the book.  This was quickly followed by a retraction of sorts where the Sun claimed they were no longer about to serialise the book and in the article said that Mac Giolla Bhain was —” tarred with sickening sectarian brush”.  Strong words indeed.  Many people–journalists included–have opined that perhaps Mac Giolla Bhain isnt the person who should be writing this book.  Below you will find an interesting take on that opinion from Dr. Andrew Sanders–also an author-of, amongst other things a book upon the rise of dissident Republicans.

When cowards mock the patriots fate,

Who hangs his head in shame?

He’s all a knave or half a slave,

Who slights his Country thus,

But a true man, like you, man,

Will fill his glass with us.

Civil Disobedience – right or wrong
