A standard snaps in the winter air
\nThere\u2019s a strident bugle call
\nNo time to chatter or concur
\nNor waiver or forestall
\nWith backs like rods and shoulders square
\nAnd proud heads held on high
\nA militia then beyond compare
\nThe Volunteers march by.<\/p>\n

Formed by need and requisite
\nTo face Erin\u2019s shameful ruse
\nTo stand as one and hold the gun
\nThe option theirs to choose
\nFrom country lanes and streets so poor
\nTo men of great renown
\nIn circumstance this one last chance
\nTo fight and serve the Crown.<\/p>\n

From all compass points and in between
\nThey rallied to the shout
\nThey signed in blood and swore they would
\nDrive disloyal rebels out
\nDefiant lines in treacherous times
\nOur first rank of attack
\nBold men avowed to be allowed
\nTo force dissenters back.<\/p>\n

With colours raised and orders gave
\nWith resolve and fortitude
\nWith strength of mind and purpose
\nTheir business to conclude
\nTo set in stone a promise
\nThat will last a hundred years
